Breakin' Out

A more in-depth look at Prison Break: The Conspiracy

Prison Break: The Conspiracy is an action/stealth game based on the Prison Break tv show. The game runs parallel to the television show's first season and tells the story of Tom Paxton, A company agent sent into Fox River State Penitentiary to investigate Michael Scofield.

The majority of the time you spend in the game (and it isn't too long you'll be playing, With the story taking about 6 hours and not a lot of replayability) is spent sneaking around in stealth areas. The stealth aspect is done rather well, Playing a lot like earlier Metal Gear Solid games minus the weapons. If you get spotted, You have to restart the area meaning you'll have to pay more attention to enemy patrols and the path you'll take to get to your destination.

Some parts will require combat which comes in the form of some one-on-one fist fights with simple controls that don't always hit their mark, But are far from being difficult. Some action scenes (particularly towards the end of the game) require an old friend, the QTE (quick time event), and while failing an event just means restarting it, There ARE a few that prove difficult due to very short windows of opportunity.

Throughout the course of the game you will witness some of the tv shows key events as well as learn about some stuff that was happening behind the scenes. The story is well told with good voice acting and a storyline that remains beleivable without interfering in the tv shows story.

All the characters and environments look on par with most other current gen games, With the main characters being modelled after their tv counterparts. Environments look nice and are designed well, providing enough hiding spaces to not make sneaking too hard, but enough guards and open spaces to make sure you do get caught if you don't plan ahead.

Music is taken from the soundtrack of the tv show and does it's job well. You'll know from the soundtrack that you are playing Prison Break, but it still provides enough suspense to keep you interested.

Prson Break: The Conspiracy is actually a good game that has been well planned and executed, But this wll probably be missable for people who haven't seen the tv show, As much of the story will go over the heads of people unfamiliar with the characters and story of the show. As with the Saw game, Prison Break: The Conspiracy is the type of movie tie-in that i'd love to see more of.
