A short and quick rant today on an unusual topic... Australian TV and broadcasting
If you're like me, you like being up to date on certain TV shows and wondering whats going to happen next. If you're like me and live in Australia, then chances are you need to download or stream your favourite TV shows because while season 3 may be well and truly finished in America, we're lucky if season 2 is just starting. While some networks are better than others (with virtually all public channels coming in last) virtually every show in Australia is delayed. Sometimes by a day, sometimes by a week, sometimes much, much more. My problem with this is that many shows end up getting cancelled because of a lack of viewers, and while i doubt Australian viewer numbers would make much difference, it's sad to know that often, we aren't even seeing the start of a new season until long after the show has been cancelled. A few years ago the 7 network attempted to broadcast several key shows in unison with the US, but anyone who was already resorting to the internet for their TV was well aware that while the shows where LESS behind, The US was still airing about 2 weeks ahead. I'm not sure on the reason why this happens, but if an episode of a TV show can be available on torrent sites within hours of its airing in the US, how hard could it be for major networks in Australia to run the episode the next day. It would help the industry as a whole, provide more accurate viewer numbers and cut down on piracy. Surely any extra costs would be worth it to be pulling larger shares of the audience.
